Annmarie Sculpture Garden & Arts Center and juror Colleen Morith are pleased to present I’ll Be There: An Exhibition about Love which features works by artists who think critically and deeply about the meaning of love in our culture. In the realm of our romantic lives, self-love, in our families, spiritual love, and love between friends, it is obvious that love informs our decisions and can strengthen our understanding of our communities.
This exhibition will take place in our Main Gallery and will be open to the public from June 10 to August 28, 2022. The Annmarie After Hours Opening reception will be on June 10 from 5 - 7 pm.

Juror's Statement:
I am not an artist. I love art.
I approached this exhibition by reading artists' statements first. What struck me was the many ways we love. We love passionately. We love chastely. We love family. We love friends. We love ourselves (or not). The artists in this show all expressed what love means to them - desire, happiness, growth of self, grief at the loss of great love, and the joy of love.
It was a real pleasure to ponder this very “big” word while selecting these works. I hope you will feel the intensity of love in all its variations while interacting with each piece.
As someone who in my day job is a fundraiser, I hope my outsider perspective brings together an exhibition that makes you experience something new and memorable. But this show isn’t about me.

Take a guided walk through the grounds and learn how to identify and sustainably
harvest natural materials for making dyes and ropes.
Using the foraged materials from last week, along with other fun botanicals from the
artist's collection, learn the basics of making dye from plant matter while coloring the
ropes to be used in the final installation.
If you've enjoyed making tassels in the artLAB, come learn how to craft more intricate
tassels using basic macrame techniques and specialty cords/
Wondering what all those tassels are for? Come help put the finishing touches on the
bird sculpture by attaching the tassels to the wings!
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Annie Tull is a compassionate visionary working at the intersection of fine art and permaculture. Annie Tull uses repetition and rhythm to push the boundaries of color and line. Her sustainable site-specific installations are created from organic cotton rope and plant-based dyes. With dual background in interior architecture and fine art, she uses rope as a means of connection toward a goal of closing the gap between people and planet. By exploring the creative potential of an ordinary household material like rope, Tull hopes to create visual experiences that are honest, intentional, and tied back to the land. She is committed to a creative practice with an earth-first ethos.

Annmarie After Hours Opening Reception - Friday, July 8, 5-8pm, 2022
Art Blooms is a three-day exhibit featuring the work of more than 25 floral designers from across the region. Each floral designer is assigned a work of art in the Main Gallery or the Kay Daugherty Gallery and asked to create an arrangement inspired by that work of art. The results are surprising, beautiful, and provocative - and not to be missed. 2022 will mark the 13th year for Art Blooms, an exhibit co-hosted by the Calvert Garden Club and Ann's Circle of Annmarie Garden.
Come frolic in the Fairy Lolly and explore our magical village of fairy houses and gnome homes, each lovingly created by children.
About Artists in Action 2022
Annmarie Sculpture Garden & Arts Center is pleased to announce the return of Artists in Action! From March 7 - May 30, 2022, Annmarie’s Main Gallery will be transformed into temporary artist studios, providing a serene retreat and workspace for artists to create. The 30-acre park, patios, and pavilions will host plein air painters and outdoor artists.
Interested in Applying?
Artists in Action provides visiting artists the opportunity to develop new artwork, network with other artists, display and sell their existing work in a gallery exhibit, and share their creative process with visitors. Through this program, artists are allowed to work in free studio space in a beautiful setting. The sculpture park provides numerous locations for artists to work and find inspiration. Outdoor artists can select days and times that fit their schedule and adjust as the weather dictates. Artists may work on any project they wish using our park as their workspace. The goal of the program is to provide artists with a safe opportunity to create and sell art while sharing the creative process with the public - at a distance. Outdoor artists may move their space freely day to day, utilizing covered areas, patios, forests, paths, etc. Artists are welcome to bring a small tent or patio umbrella for shade/ weather protection.

'Adorned: Inspired by Fabric and Fashion' brings together artists who construct their work through adornment as methods for revealing, or concealing, identities. The goal of the exhibition is to include work rooted in material exploration with an interest in pattern, fabric, and fashion. Adorned features 70 works by 55 exhibiting artists.

Scott Andresen is an artist who lives and works in New Orleans, LA. His collage and mixed media-based works explore themes of repair and the joining of the unlikely. He received his MFA from Yale University and BA from Hunter College and has over 50 group and solo exhibitions to his name including the Jack Tilton Gallery, Lehmann Maupin Gallery, Exit Art, Naples Museum of Art and The Bronx Museum. He has attended residencies at Socrates Sculpture Park and Lower Manhattan Cultural Council while also receiving grants from New York Foundation for the Arts, the Pollock Krasner Foundation, and the Jacob Javits Fellowship. Scott is an Assistant Professor at the LSU School of Art where he oversees the Foundations program.

Overcomer is a combination of artists' books and prints which document Sarah's journey through depression, anger, hope, peace, and love. Amid a global pandemic, racial injustices, and social isolation, Sarah was able to find her artistic voice. Carving large woodblocks, making layered prints with linoleum blocks, and binding books with colorful patterns have been a doorway to express her thoughts and feelings.

Sarah Matthews is a printmaker and book artist. Her work has been exhibited in the US and is a part of the permanent collections of Yale’s Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library, George Washington University’s Gelman Library, University of Puget Sound, and Samford University. Sarah is currently the Alma Thomas Fellow at the Studio Gallery in Washington, DC. She is also a YouTuber and a designer for ArtFoamies.com. Arts in the New Normal showcases more than fifty works of art from Korean-American artists living and working in the Washington, DC metropolitan area.
Although the Covid-19 pandemic has forced many of us to change our plans and find creative ways to adapt, there is hope that society and life can return to some resemblance of life before the pandemic. Every artist has experienced this challenging time differently and we all understand that the new normal we are looking forward to may not be exactly as before. Still, we are hopeful for days when Covid-19 doesn’t dominate the news, and gathering with friends and family isn’t considered high risk behavior. We look forward to the day when planning for the future seems possible again.
The works in this exhibition reflect that hope and those contradictions of joy and loss, of fear and strength, that each artist has shared in a unique way.
