Inked: The Art of the Tattoo

Juror: Duffy Fortner, Tattoo Artist at Red Octopus Tattoo, Prince Frederick, MD, Ink Master Season 6 Contestant
Inked: The Art of Tattoo celebrates rich artistic traditions, cultural significance, and the evolving creative language of tattooing. Long regarded as both a personal form of expression and a powerful visual art, tattoos tell stories of identity, memory, heritage, transformation, and belonging. Through this exhibition, artists are invited to explore the imagery, symbolism, techniques, and aesthetics inspired by tattoos and tattoo culture.
In the gallery, you will find tattoo flash paintings, artistic photographs of tattoos/tattooed people, handcrafted tattoo machines, and artworks related to tattoo subculture. Works also celebrate the craft itself, examine the cultural significance of tattooing across societies, and explore themes of permanence, resilience, transformation, memory, and self-expression.
This exhibition will be open to the public in the Kay Daugherty of Annmarie Sculpture Garden & Arts Center from October 9 through January 17.

Plumage & Place: Birds of the World

Plumage and Place: Birds of the World invites visitors to explore the remarkable diversity of birds and the adaptations that help them thrive in habitats from forests to deserts. Discover how beaks, feet, feathers, and even bones reveal a bird’s lifestyle—from cracking nuts to sipping nectar or swimming with ease—and see houseplants paired with birds from their shared regions of origin. The exhibit highlights unusual, colorful, tall, and tiny species, showcases how evolution shapes form and function, and explains everyday threats like window collisions and how you can help. All ages will enjoy the eye-catching displays and hands-on activities throughout this exhibit.
